Moataz Nasr spent 18 days in Tahrir Square, experiencing different encounters and forming an emotional attachment to his surroundings. This series of small scale sculptures depict some of the crucial events he saw or personally experienced in those 18 days. These ceramic figures portray the diversity of the Egyptian society and their unity in the Tahrir Square to achieve their freedoms and rights, different components of the society standing together to achieve a common goal.
Here is how Moataz identifies with them: “These are based on real people I saw in Tahrir Square during those 18 days of protests. That was a special time when people from every section of society came together to fight for a common cause. But what is happening today in Egypt is disheartening. It makes me feel that the revolution has been sold. So I made these souvenirs to remind us of the event, just like our glorious history has now been reduced to figurines of ancient Pharaohs sold in souvenir shops.” - Gulfnews
