Carmen Amaya was a flamenca of romani/gitane origin. she is often considered to be the greatest dancer with the genre. she was born in the somorrostro slum of Barcelona, Spain which is called vila olímpica nowadays. she first danced in a cave near Granada. she has been called “the greatest spanish gypsy dancer of her generation”and “the most extrardinary personality of all time in flamenco dance”.
