José Ferraz de Almeida Júnior (1850-1899) was probably the first Brazilian artist to portray on screen the common man in his daily life. Some critics see him as a “painter of the national" since his canvases feature regional customs, colours and luminosity, against the Eurocentric tradition that prevailed in academic painting. Séjour en France
José Ferraz de Almeida Júnior habite à Paris entre 1876 et 1882, et étudie à l´Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, avec le professeur Alexandre Cabanel (1823 - 1889). Pendant son séjour dans la capitale française, il participe à quatre éditions du Salon Officiel des Artistes Français. À son retour au Brésil en 1882, il expose à la Aiba les oeuvres qu´il a réalisées à Paris. [ biographie ]
